Morganstone - Coed Y Lan Bug Hotel

Coed y Lan pupils visit site and build bug hotels

As our Coed-y-Lan development is on the site of the former Coed-y-Lan Lower Comprehensive School, Pontypridd, it was fitting that primary pupils from the school paid a visit to the site recently.

The visit was aimed at promoting the environment, construction and careers to the youngsters. Pupils from years 5 and 6 spent an enjoyable afternoon looking over the site and establishing two ‘Bug Hotels’ from re-cycled materials in the health and wellbeing garden.

Previously, Antonia John, Community Engagement Manager, had given a site safety talk following which the children designed site safety posters. Prizes were given for the best designs.

Antonia John, Community Engagement Manager said

“We had a fantastic afternoon with the pupils of Coed y Lan and it was great to see the children really enjoying the building the bug hotel and learning about the construction and the environment”.

Robert James, Coed y Lan Headmaster said

“The children thoroughly enjoyed the activity and designed some imaginative hotels which will make the residents garden eco-friendly and add to their enjoyment of their living space as well as encouraging minibeasts.”

Demolition of the former school took place in summer 2016, with the site, creating much needed affordable housing, due for completion in the last quarter of 2017.
