Leading South Wales construction company Morganstone has secured a contract worth £2.4 million for a new housing development in Pontypridd, on behalf of Rhondda Housing Association.
The Coed-y-Lan development is on the site of the former Coed-y-Lan Lower Comprehensive School on Lanpark Road. Demolition of the former school is set to take place this summer, with the site due for completion in the last quarter of 2017 and will create much needed affordable new homes.
Morganstone has been contracted to build 18 apartments where the gymnasium building is situated, which will include six ground floor units that will incorporate adaptions for those with special access requirements.
The company will also convert the Grade II Listed Building former woodwork block into four apartments. The apartments will be built to Welsh Government development quality requirements.
Ian Morgan, managing director of Morganstone, said:
“The Coed-y-Lan development continues our long standing relationship with Rhondda Housing Association as this is the fourth site we will be partnering with the social landlord on and we are delighted to be working alongside with them once again.”
Lesley Davies, chief executive of Rhondda Housing Association, said:
“Rhondda Housing Association is committed to delivering high quality housing solutions for the people and communities of RCT. This new scheme with Morganstone will provide quality homes for people unable to access housing via traditional routes.”
