Morganstone, a leading South Wales construction company with offices across South Wales, has secured a contract worth almost £2 million for a new housing development in Newport, on behalf of the Pobl Group.
The Merry Miller is a former public house in Bettws that closed to customers over six years ago. It has since become a haven for vandals and anti-social behaviour. Charter Housing, part of the Pobl Group, acquired the land in 2015 and appointed Morganstone to build a mix of affordable homes and apartments. These will be available to rent through Charter Housing.
Chris Edge, operations manager for Morganstone, said:
“The site has been subject to a lot of vandalism and fires, causing immense concern to the local residents. The contract will see the demolition of the former Merry Miller public house and the provision of much needed affordable housing within the Newport area.”
Neil Taylor, senior project manager, Pobl Group said:
“Financed through the Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant, Smaller Properties Programme and Housing Finance Grant, it is another example of Pobl, Morganstone and Newport City Council successfully working in partnership to create more affordable homes for local people.”
