Morganstone - Morganstone Sponsorship Ensures The Race Will Go On

Morganstone sponsorship ensures the race will go on!

Welsh construction company, Morganstone, returns as headline sponsor of the historical Butetown Mile this year. This iconic run was established in the 1980’s and attracted runners from all over the United Kingdom, looking to better their one mile running times. The traditional  Fun Run, open to all, has always provided a colourful spectacle alongside the Elite Race and this year will be no exception as the competitors race from the top of Bute Street to finish in Cardiff Bay. This year the event takes place on Sunday 27 August raising money for the Sickle Cell Society.

“The Butetown Mile course takes in Bute Street, traditionally home to the African and Caribbean population in Cardiff, says Sarah Fry, one of the organisers of the race.

“Sickle Cell, a condition that affects the body’s red blood cells, is prevalent in people of this origin, with a risk rate as high as 1 in 10.  Life-long symptoms include pain and regular infections.  The Butetown Mile has chosen to support the Sickle Cell Society to help raise awareness of this chronic and life-limiting condition, affecting so many of the afro-caribbean population in Cardiff.”

Ken Evans, Morganstone Project Manager says “The race runs very close to our Schooner Way development and therefore it’s great to support a local event whilst also supporting a charity that has close links with the area”.

In addition to Morganstone, Project 2020 and Cardiff Community Housing Association are also supporting event alongside the Canton Chargers ‘Cardiff’s free and friendly running club’, who are the official club of the race, bringing runners, volunteers and general enthusiasm to help make the day happen.

For the serious runners the target of completing the mile in less than seven minutes is your goal. If you just want to enjoy the experience then the fun run is for you, open to all ages and abilities – you can even wear fancy dress!
