Morganstone - Dave Macmillan

Morganstone site manager will walk 72 miles over 1.5 days for Macmillan Cancer Support

On Saturday 26th July, Morganstone Site Manager David Jones is walking an incredible 72 miles over a day and a half for a memorial walk on behalf of his close friend Neil Hutchings. Neil unfortunately lost his battle with cancer last year, and was supported by Macmillan Cancer Support Nurses throughout his illness. He was a fantastic rugby player, and played for the Barbarians against the touring All Blacks in 1978, alongside Treorchy Rugby Club, Cardiff Rugby Club, Aberavon Rugby Club and Pontypridd Rugby Club.

The walk will start at Treorchy Rugby Club and will progress to Aberavon Rugby Club, followed by Cardiff Rugby Club before heading up the taff to Pontypridd Rugby Club. The journey will be very poignant as David will pass through each of the four clubs that Neil played rugby for. The last leg of the walk will be from Pontypridd back to Treorchy Rugby Club – where a gathering of 70 of Neil’s friends and family are anticipated to join David for the final ten miles of the journey.

The large crowd are anticipated to receive a huge welcome back at Treorchy RFC, where they will enjoy refreshments and entertainment in celebration of the walk, followed by an announcement of the total raised for MacMillan Cancer Care. Neil’s wife Lynne and family will be at the club to unveil a memorial photograph to honour Neil’s commitment to Treorchy RFC.
