After a successful World of Work event last November, fast growing, award-winning construction company Morganstone has again showcased its offering at a careers convention in South West Wales.
The Carmarthenshire Schools’ Careers and Skills Convention was organised by Careers Wales in partnership with Coleg Sir Gar and Carmarthenshire Council at the Parc Y Scarlets, Llanelli on March 15, 2016. Two thousand pupils from schools across the county were at the stadium to look at different businesses and to take part in activities that could help them find a future career.
Morganstone staff were on hand to show pupils what a career in construction would like, what important skills they would need to find a job in the many various sectors within the industry and to answer any of their questions.
Pupils were given a handbook at the start of the day and were asked to pick five careers they were interested in and visit the stands of the businesses related to that industry. Once at the stands they had to ask various questions to find out more about that particular career and whether or not it could be suitable for them.
Antonia John, community engagement manager for Morganstone, said:
“The construction industry accounts for over two million jobs across the UK and it is expected to grow by over 3% in the next five years with an addition 220,000 needed to be recruited to meet the growth. Today we hoped to show pupils from across the county what a future in construction would look like for them.
It was a great success and we had hundreds of pupils visit our stand to discuss the industry and it was fantastic that many were very interested in pursuing construction as a career”.
