Morganstone shortlisted for CEW Project of the Year Award

Cwmgelli Lodge, in Blackwood, Caerphilly, is a care home providing specialist care for younger people with a dementia or cognitive impairment who are looking for respite or long-term care.

Opened in 2015, the flagship facility consists of 22 self-contained accommodation units, family accommodation for visitors to stay, spacious lounges in an open-plan setting, café area leading onto a garden and pavilion providing a space for activities and social events, spa for relaxation, Alzheimer’s Society Office, Aneurin Bevan University Health board office, clinic room, and first floor roof terrace.

The development was designed to meet the BREEAM sustainable built environment “Very Good” Standard and was completed in May 2015 and has already received a Considerate Constructor Scheme Award.

Prior to the first residents moving in, Morganstone staff were able to hold an open event to show guests around the premises to learn more about the building and the future use of Cwmgelli Lodge.

The Constructing Excellence in Wales Awards are open to all organisations and teams involved in carrying out projects in Wales. The awards are recognised across the Welsh built environment industry as the biggest celebration of best practice in Wales. Winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony at the Celtic Manor, Newport, on 15 July.

Morganstone delivers high-quality developments for public sector organisations, private developers and residential landlords across Wales and the South West of England.

The company has almost doubled its turnover in the past two years to around £20 million and has recently opened a Cardiff office.  It has received numerous accolades in recent years including being recognised as the Fastest Growing Medium to Large firm in Wales at the Fast Growth 50 Awards 2015.

Ian Morgan, managing director of Morganstone, said:

“Cwmgelli Lodge was a really important project for us. We worked closely with all the partners involved to make sure that the final result was a place that provides much needed help and support for those that need it. It also cemented the development of care facilities as a vital part of our portfolio.

“To be recognised for Cwmgelli Lodge is fantastic and a testament to how important the building is here in Wales.”
