Morganstone raise money for Cancer Research by putting their running shoes

Staff from Morganstone, the Llanelli-based construction company, pulled on their running shoes for Cancer Research over the Bank Holiday weekend with Morganstone being one of the main sponsors at this year’s Butetown Mile Run in Cardiff.

The Butetown Mile is a one mile running event in Butetown. It starts at the top of Bute Street and finishes at Cardiff Bay. This iconic run started in the 1980’s when it attracted runners from all over the United Kingdom, looking to better their one mile running times, on a course that is nearly straight. In the early 1990’s former marathon world record holder from Wales, Steve Jones, completed the mile in under four minutes.

The mile is split into two categories; the Elite Run and the Fun Run. The Elite Run is for those who want to run the mile in under seven minutes. The Fun Run is for everyone else and several turned up in fancy dress as well.

Representing Morganstone were Elliot Carpenter and Antonia John who competed with the fun runners, and finished the course in nine minutes. They joined over 180 elite and fun runners to raise money for charity with winner Tom Marshall completing the course in 4 minutes and 24 seconds.

Antonia John, said:

“It was an absolutely fantastic event with runners of all ages and abilities taking part. The weather held and Elliot and I are really pleased with our time, although we are aiming to run again next year and see if we can better our times and maybe even enter the elite run!”

Ian Morgan, director of Morganstone, said:

“I am thrilled with the Morganstone running team and the efforts they put in to help raise money for Cancer Research. The run raised over £800 for the charity which is brilliant, and the team should be really pleased with the hard work they put in.”
