Morganstone launches new competition

It was an eventful morning for the children at Ysgol Gynradd Cymraeg Castellau, Beddau, last month (Monday 23 March), as staff from Morganstone and Rhondda Housing Association launched a poster competition during a site safety talk.

More than 100 children joined staff members to watch a video on the dangers of active building sites – and why you should not play on one.

After the video had finished, Ivor Good Site, a costumed character developed by the Considerate Constructors Scheme and regularly used by Morganstone to engage with school pupils to encourage safety on and around construction sites, launched a poster competition for the children of the school.

Morganstone and Rhondda Housing Association are constructing 39 Dwellings opposite the school on Castellau Road and the children of the school, were tasked with designing posters warning people of the dangers of playing on construction sites.

Mr Dafydd Davies, head teacher of Ysgol Gynradd Cymraeg Castellau, said:

“We are really impressed with the effort put in by both Morganstone and Rhondda Housing Association, to make sure the children are aware of the dangers of the construction which is just across the road from the school.”

Peter Rees, Contracts Manager for Morganstone, said:

“Although Ivor brings a bit of fun to these visits, he still has a very serious message to give about the dangers of construction sites. The children always respond really well to the video, and we look forward to see the entries for the poster competition, when the lucky winner will have their poster put up outside the site.”

The Castellau Road project will see the construction of 39 new properties in the semi-rural setting of Beddau.
