Morganstone delivers STEM workshop at Birchgrove Comprehensive

Morganstone recently visited Birchgrove Comprehensive alongside Ospreys in the Community to deliver a STEM workshop to girls in years 7 and 8.

The event formed part of Ospreys in the Communities Rookie Rugby Week. The day consisted of workshops from Morganstone, Big Ideas Wales and Ospreys in the Community. The series of activities introduced the girls to the world of work, teaching them about entrepreneurship and allowed them to partake in some hands-on construction-led activities in addition to some rugby sessions in the afternoon.

Morganstone delivered a LEGO workshop whereby the girls were split up into teams, given construction roles and asked to work together as a team to build a replica LEGO power station. The activity allowed the girls to utilise their STEM knowledge and skills. The event formed part of a series of wider events that Morganstone has recently taken part in alongside Ospreys in the Community.

Subjects such as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (or STEM) are highly important as our world is becoming more dependent on them.

According to a recent study carried out by the Social Market Foundation (SMF), 22% or 142,000 of the vacancies in science, research, engineering and technology created between 2016 and 2023 will be new jobs. The industries creating the highest number of new jobs include; construction (43%), specialised construction (63%) and retail and head offices (both 36%).
