Morganstone - Stem Workshop 2

Morganstone and Westacres visit St David’s Primary to deliver STEM Lego workshop

Representatives from Morganstone and Westacres were recently on hand to deliver a STEM Lego workshop to Year 5 pupils at St David’s Primary School in West Cross, Mumbles.

The afternoon started with introductions from our Community Engagement Manager Nia Collard, the Westacres team and Dragon Training, who will be partnering up with Morganstone and Westacres to deliver a Give and Gain style gardening project at the Primary.

Following the introductions, the students were grouped into construction teams and had to discuss and assign themselves the best suited roles to their personalities. The roles included: Project Manager, Site Engineer, Quantity Surveyor, General Foreman and Community Engagement Manager. The activity was then timed as members from each team had to view a hidden model LEGO power station and work with their teams to replicate.

Each team were given the opportunity to critique their efforts and brainstorm around what they would do differently if they were to complete the task again, before presenting their models to the rest of the class.

The winning team were awarded a prize and applauded for their excellent attention to detail alongside communication with the rest of their team. All five teams showed excellent teamwork, communication, maths, time management and problem-solving skills.

The visit formed part of a wider Community Engagement strategy in line with the prestigious Summerland Lane development situated nearby. The scheme will consist of 61 dwellings, compromising 30 open market homes, and 31 affordable and shared ownership homes for clients Westacres and POBL Living.
