Youngsters from Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Pontardawe were rewarded for their artistic skills when leading Welsh construction specialists, Morganstone, along with housing developer, Pennant Homes, announced the winners of a poster competition to highlight the importance of construction site safety.
The team behind the Parc y Dderwen development returned to Ysgol Gymraeg Pontardawe to judge an art competition after they gave the pupils an informal lesson on the potential safety hazards around building sites last month.
Morganstone carry out a regular education programme with schools to help children understand the risks and how to avoid them, with the children invited to design imaginative posters featuring site safety themes.
Having chosen the winning artworks, Morganstone have enlarged the posters to create eye-catching hoardings, to be placed around the Parc y Dderwen site.
Morganstone’s Community Engagement Manager, Antonia John, said: “We were very impressed with the children’s artworks. They clearly put a lot of thought and effort into them and it was hard to choose an overall winners.
“We loved meeting the children to share important messages around construction site safety. We work hard to create developments that really enhance neighbourhoods for years to come and we are keen to be good neighbours ourselves, so helping young people to stay safe around our developments is an important part of this.
Ceri Daniel, Pennant Homes Operations Manager said: “We are always happy to engage with the local community at our developments across South Wales and to help young people learn something valuable at the same time.”
Ysgol Gymraeg Pontardawe’s Headteacher, Ceri Emanuel, said: “Our youngsters were really enthused by this project, as you can see from their finished artworks. We would like to thank Morganstone and Pennant Homes for taking time out of their schedules to visit us.”
Morganstone’s partnership with Pennant Homes has been a long one and it has seen a range of high quality developments introduced throughout South Wales. Parc y Dderwen Phase 5 will deliver 29 executive homes for sale in Pontardawe, through Pennant Homes, with 8 homes available for rent via Coastal Housing Group. This phase of the development is due for completion towards the end of 2017.
