We are delighted to begin another prestigious development in Cardiff Bay.
The Schooner Way development sees us work, once again, in partnership with Cardiff Community Housing Association (CCHA), and architects Austin-Smith:Lord, cementing the successful working relationship we established while working on the nearby Hamadryad Court development.
This new development of 85 apartments for sale and 32 affordable homes will front and overlook Bute East Dock, offering 1,2, 3 and 4 bedroom properties, in a mix of social and private housing.
Our Managing Director, Ian Morgan, said: “We are delighted to be working with Cardiff Community Housing Association on the Schooner Way development.
“This development further cements Morganstone’s position as a leading supplier of quality homes which enhance their locale and which help to create successful neighbourhoods and communities.
“We are very proud of the work we are doing in the capital city and we are delighted to be working alongside partners who share our ethos of providing homes for all which improve people’s daily lives.”
Caroline Lewis, Director of Development at Cardiff Community Housing Association, added: “CCHA is well established as a leading social housing provider in the city and we are delighted to be instrumental to the Schooner Way development.
“CCHA are excited to be able to offer homes for sale within the heart of Cardiff in our first open market development. Whilst offering homes for sale, CCHA will also deliver much-needed affordable family homes.
“Cardiff Community Housing Association is a Registered Society with charitable status and taking this approach with Schooner Way will allow us to continue to invest in the high quality maintenance of our existing stock in the region, to the benefit of our tenants.
“CCHA was approached by Cardiff Council in 2014 looking to purchase CCHA’s land at Hamadryad to accomodate a two form entry primary school. In order to achieve this, Welsh Government, Cardiff Council, CCHA and Morganstone worked closely to enable the land deal to take place. Following this, Morganstone was successful in being appointed as the construction partner for the development.
This partnership approach has enabled 172 new homes to be developed as well as a new primary school, providing fantastic new facilities for Cardiff.”
The architect on the Schooner Way development is Austin- Smith:Lord, whose specialisms include high quality, sustainable design for living within both the private and the public sectors.
Partner, Martin Roe, said: “We have worked closely with CCHA and Morganstone to create a development which will meet a wide range of housing needs, from specialised homes for families with disabled children to open market waterside apartments.
“A taller apartment building maximises the opportunities offered by the fantastic waterside location, whilst an arrangement of townhouses provides affordable family housing at an appropriate scale to complete this missing section of Schooner Way and faster a vibrant and successful community.”
Completion of the Schooner Way development is projected for December 2018.
