Amber is a Level 2 Carpentry who is employed by Edwards and Mangano Carpentry and is currently on placement at our Thornton Road site in Pembrokeshire. Amber is in her second year at Pembrokeshire College and is currently enjoying life on site with Morganstone as she looks to gain valuable experience within her trade.
At Morganstone, we remain focused on enticing young people into the world of construction, especially considering the rise of the construction sector in Wales. Amber is also an excellent of example of our emphasis on bringing in more women to the construction industry, our focus on this can be seen at previous Women in Construction events that we have previously hosted.
It is often accepted that women are under-represented in the construction industry and this is largely due to companies ignoring the necessity to commit to creating a more gender diverse workplace. Despite this, there has been a 6% increase in women in STEM related apprenticeships in 2017, according to Randstad’s Women in Construction Gender Equality Report.
Women only make up around 14% of the construction workforce as it stands but this number is set to rise with more and more women choosing jobs in the construction industry every day.
