Morganstone - Pupils Build Great Wall Of China- Morganstone, a multi-disciplined construction company in Swansea, Wales

Junior School pupils build Great Wall of China!

There was a hive of activity at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Junior School, Port Talbot recently when the pupils took part in a competition to design and build a construction or building out of re-cycled materials. The competition, Honor’s Big Build, was part of a UK wide initiative from the Considerate Constructor Scheme and organised by construction company, Morganstone. The company is currently working in partnership with Gwalia part of the Pobl Group and Neath Port Talbot Council on a new development, Ty’r Orsaf, at the site of the old Police Station, close to the school. For the full story see our project and community pages.

The £4 million redevelopment at Ty’r Orsaf is one of a number of projects in the Council’s regeneration programme, which will see over £35 million invested in and around the town centre, partly funded by the Welsh Governments Vibrant and Viable Places Programme.

Participation in the competition was intended to encourage children to be creative and innovative, solve problems, to think about the world and structures around them, to develop an understanding of environmental issues and to work collaboratively.

The children designed three projects – the White House, Morganstone Head Quarters and the Great Wall of China and their ideas and innovations were rewarded by coming Runners Up in the competition which saw schools competing from across the UK.
