Construction mascot launches safety poster competition

It was an eventful morning for the children at Ysgol Gynradd Saron, Ammanford, when staff from construction company Morganstone and new homes developer Westacres launched a poster competition during a site safety talk.

More than 50 children joined staff members to watch a video on the dangers of active building sites – and why you should not play on one – at the school on Wednesday March 25th.

After the video had finished, Ivor Goodsite, a costumed character developed by the Considerate Constructors Scheme and regularly used by Morganstone to engage with school pupils to encourage safety on and around construction sites, launched a poster competition for the children of the school.

Children will design a poster warning of the dangers of a building site which will be displayed at the Westacres development in Saron

Mrs Catherine de Schoolmeester, acting head teacher of Ysgol Gynradd, Saron, said:

“We are really grateful for the effort put in by both Morganstone and Westacres, to make sure the children are aware of the dangers of the construction site which will be near the school.”

Peter Rees, Contracts Manager for Morganstone, said:

“Although Ivor brings a bit of fun to these visits, we still has a very serious message to give about the dangers of construction sites. The children always respond really well to the video, and we look forward to see the entries for the poster competition, when the lucky winner will have their poster put up outside the site.”

Tonia Morgan, Westacres Director commented:

“Westacres work closely with the communities in which we are developing and forging links with the local schools, particularly warning of the dangers of building sites is very important to us, we very much look forward to judging the posters and working closely with Ysgol Gynradd, Saron during the development of Parc y Mynydd”
