Old Furnace House, Neath

The transformation of the former Old Furnace House building in Neath was one of Morganstone’s ambitious development projects and was a beginning of a new partnership with NPT Homes, a non-profit organisation and social landlord providing community and housing throughout Neath and Port Talbot.

The development has provided much needed affordable smaller properties in area and consists of 15 properties, 11 two-bedroom houses and 4 one-bedroom flats on the site of the Old Furnace House, a vacant NPT Homes sheltered scheme. The development which completed in July 2015 received £1 million funding as part of a Social Housing Grant through the Welsh Government’s Smaller Properties Programme.  The Welsh Government’s Smaller Properties Programme is aimed specifically at helping to alleviate the impact of the UK Government’s “Bedroom Tax”.

The development was awarded the Best Large Volume New Housing Development at the Neath Port Talbot LABC Building Control Excellence Awards in March 2016 and was shortlisted for Development of the Year at the Chartered Institute of Housing Cymru Housing Awards 2015.
