Charity golf day raises £10,000 for good causes
The Gwalia Trust Pro-Am tournament, sponsored by Llanelli-based Morganstone who also secured a third place victory, is a key date on the PGA West calendar. Amateur teams are joined by seasoned professionals at Langland Bay Golf Club to enjoy the course amidst spectacular views of the Gower Peninsular.
Winning was par for the course for tournament hosts Langland Bay Golf Club, closely followed by R&M Williams Building Group placing second. Alongside the team competition, there was fierce competition amongst the PGA pros for the winning spot but it was Sion Bebb, playing with tournament sponsors Morganstone, who eventually took first place.
Gwalia Trust exists to provide grants to projects which provide benefits for individuals and local communities. Projects which have recently benefitted from Trust Funding include a Neath-based project for vulnerable young people and a scheme providing free breakfasts to children in some of the poorest areas of Swansea during school holidays.
Chair of the Gwalia Trust John Morse said players and spectators alike enjoyed the sunshine and scenery as well as the golf.
“We are very grateful to Morganstone for their support. It is an honour to say that the tournament is now in its 27th year and we never fail to attract players to the annual charity fundraiser,” he said. “It is our principal fundraising event and crucial to the Trust’s ability to support some of the most vulnerable people in society. Since January this year several local community projects have benefitted from a share of more than £50,000.”
