We are currently on the lookout for a Trainee Estimator to join our Pre-development Team.

The role will be based in our Llanelli Office, with occasional travel around South Wales.

The Trainee Estimator will work under the guidance of the estimating team to learn the process of preparing accurate cost estimates for construction projects. This role involves assisting with the examination of project documents, gathering pricing information, and contributing to the preparation of detailed cost estimates. The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of construction processes, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.

Main Duties:

 

  • Assist in reviewing project drawings, specifications, and other documents to understand project scope
  • Help gather and organise pricing information for materials, labour, and plant
  • Support the preparation of bills of quantities and detailed cost estimates
  • Assist in maintaining relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing
  • Help maintain accurate records of estimates, proposals, and project documentation
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with other departments as needed
  • Learn and apply estimating best practices and company procedures
  • Perform basic calculations and quantity take-offs under supervision
  • Assist in the use of estimating software and databases
  • Shadow experienced estimators during site visits and pre-bid meetings
  • Undertake any other reasonable duty relevant to the position as assigned by the Estimating team

Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of the construction industry, including the processes, materials and methods.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good communication skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn estimating software (e.g., Evaluate or similar)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Construction related field (preferred but not required)
